This is the Truth

John 8:31-33, English Standard Version

The Truth Will Set You Free
31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” 33 They answered him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?”

John 8:31-33, The Message

If the Son Sets You Free
31-32 Then Jesus turned to the Jews who had claimed to believe in him. “If you stick with this, living out what I tell you, you are my disciples for sure. Then you will experience for yourselves the truth, and the truth will free you.” 33 Surprised, they said, “But we’re descendants of Abraham. We’ve never been slaves to anyone. How can you say, ‘The truth will free you’?”

Sermonic Moves:

  1. Jesus is the Lifter - a stooping Jesus writes on the ground to lift an accused woman from condemnation.
  2. Jesus is the Provider of light and is the Light of Life who dispels gloom and confusion.
  3. Jesus is the Liberator who is the Word and the Way of liberation and freedom:

           A. Freedom from the traps of systems and strongholds.

           B. Freedom from the traps of people who too are the victims of systems and strongholds

           C. Freedom from the traps of our own limitations through:

                       i. Belief in Jesus

ii. Abiding in Jesus as the embodied Word

iii. Being an Authentic disciple of Jesus

iv. Knowing the truth of Jesus

                        v. Being willing to accept we are bound to begin with; We can only be free when we admit we are bound
